Elementary PE Teacher and Track Coach
About Me

I am a "Senior Plus" as I am sometimes called. Although I already have a degree in Sports Mangagement and Leisure Recreation, I am back in school to get my PE Teaching Certificate. I would liek to finish getting my certificate within another year and half, and become an Elementary PE Teacher.

I want to become a PE Teacher to young children, because I love playing with children, watching them grow, helping them learn about sports and the sports they like to play. I also like to be outdoors and feel children should spend more time outdoors playing and getting exercise.

My Teaching Philosophy

My Teaching Philosophy:

I feel that children need to spend more time outdoors exercising and playing than indoors. I feel it PE gives students a chance to play outside, exercise, make friends, and improve their fine/gross motor skills. PE also teaches children how to have sportsman like attitudes toward winning and loosing. As a PE Teacher, I will teach my students the benefits of staying healthy, using the talents to play sports God gave them, how to work as team, and what competition is truly about. I will do this while also teaching children to give glory to God for the athletic abilities they have.

Purchasing Equipment Website

I found a website for purchasing equipment that I trust for getting PE supplies and Equipement called US Games. They carry everything for every sport you can imagine, and for any game you can imagine. They also have many game listed you may have never heard of. You can also use this site if you are a coach needing equipment for a specific sport, or team. An organization that uses this site is the American Heart Association for Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart.

I was able to purchase equipment for my PE class I teach at afforable costs. The equipment arrived within reasonable amount of time and intact, ready to use. I also found the site was easy to contact and pay online right from the school's credit card, with a refund guarantee if products came in damaged in any way.

Rules about Football

I researched many websites about how to play football. Something I found, was a game that could be played to teach students the concept of football with out being so rough. It is sort of like frisbee golf, but with a football. The class divides up into 2 teams( offense and Defense). The football is then passed through the air by team mates until being thrown into the touch-down area. If the ball hits the ground it is automatically the other teams ball, or if the ball is intercepted, it goes to the team that inercepts it. There is no tackling or two hand touch, just learning how to through and catch the ball.

I actually tried teaching this game to my PE class I teach, they liked it a lot. I found it works best with 4th and 5th grades. The girls also got invovled and liked more than I thought they would. This game helped them to learn basic concepts and kept them from getting hurt.

Rules to be Successful

Some rules I found to be Successful nad keep your PE class orderly are:
1)Keep students in a straight line when walking to and from PE
2)Have students warmup/ do exercises before playing actual game or sport
3)Pay attention to the weather and modify games accordingly
4)Have a consistent punishment for students who misbehave
5)Do not allow pushing, hitting, back talk, cruel language, or bad sportsmanship
6)Let them have fun!!!

These rules will keep your students in order while letting them play games and learn about sports. These rules will also make your job easier and more enjoyable.

About the games I just listed

These 3 games are great to play indoors on rainy days. The first 2 let students learn about telling time, and about their favorite foods, subjects, etc depending on the categories. Those games also give students a chance to test out their running speed, ability, agility, and have fun. The crab game can be good for beginner soccer with the younger kids, to help them learn the concept and develop muscles, while using references to animal they may be learning about in science. These games can also be played outside and are great for ages 5-8.

Games I found for students k5-3rd grade

Some games I found for grade levels k5-3rd are Time Keeper, Super Hero Tag, and Crab Soccer.Rules are:

Time Keeper
1)One person stands at one end of the gym(time keeper), while others stand at the opposite end of the gym
2)The Time Keeper has his/her back to the students with their eyes closed and yells out times (1 oclock)
3)The other students take that many steps forward to the Time Keeper( 1 step for 1oclock)
4)Students continue walking forward to the Time Keeper until he/she yells 12 oclock midnight
5)The time keeper will then turn around and try to tag as many students as he/she can before they get back to the wall they started from.

Super Hero Tag:
1)The class lines up on one end of the gym
2)2 students are chosen to be super heros who tag the students coming toward them
3) One person picks a category( favorite food) and yells out things under that category(ice cream, pizza, cake, etc)
4) When a students favorite under that category is called, the student tries to run to the other side of the gym with out being tagged by the super heros.

Crab Soccer:
1)Students divide up into 2 teams.
2)Students sit around the square of the basketballfor the free-throw line.
3)Students can only crawl like a crab to kick the ball when the ball comes to them.
4)They must stay sitting indian style until ball comes to them, then kick the ball from crab position
5)The object is to keep the ball in the square, if someone kicks the ball out of the square, and the other team does not block it, it is a point.

My 6 approaches for teaching and Outline

My 6 approaches are as follows:
1)Using the internet to research different games for my PE students to play.
2)Researching different rules that a successful PE teacher needs to have.
3)Researching rules on sports I am not fully knowledgable about.
4)I will use what I have learned in this class to better my teaching outside of the classroom and the playing field.
5)I may use sites such as Blogger, or Twitter to keep my students updated on school events such as Field Day or Spring Fling.
6)I also plan to use the internet and search sites I have learned about to find equipment to play the sports and games I have researched.

Outline:
1)Researching different games
- I plan to look up games the students may have not played before, look up games about team work and participation, and also look up games that work on gross/fine motor skills depending on students' ages.

2)Researching different rules to be successfull
-I want to research ways to get my classes to fully participate and want to play, win, and learn how to apporiately loose. I also want to learn to mangage their behavior successfully, prevent fighting, and prevent injuries.

3)Researching different rules
-I plan to research the rules of games such as football, basketball, and volleyball, so when the students play them in PE they will be playing be the correct rules, and we will as also play them during season.

4)Using what I have learned outside of the classroom/playing field.
-Because I will not teach in a classroom, I want to learn about activites that can be done outside that will also help teach the what they are learning in the classroom(games having to do with math). I will also needs to research games that can be played indoors incase it rains or if there are limited facilities.

5)Using Blogger or Twitter
-When I learned about Blogger and Twitter then used them for myself, I realized they could be helpful in letting students know about special dates. I hope to use these sites to let students know about Spring Fling, Field Day, Jump Rope for Heart, and other thigns the school may participate in.

6)Purchasing Equipment
-I learned from researching about the games and the sports that there is a lot of equipment I will need for the students to play the games right. I will use the internet to explore prices and narrow down which companies to buyt from.
